Vendor compliancy occurs when a vendor meets a set of requirements imposed on it by a buyer of its products. Vendor compliance focuses on making it easier for the buyer to receive goods, process them upon reception, and bring them to store shelves, where applicable. Unfortunately for manufacturers, the most complex compliance standards are usually handed down by companies that have the largest buying power, a fact that causes some companies to question whether the money necessary to implement the standards would be worth the profits that resulted from doing business with an entity. In the long run, adapting business standards to meet compliance standards is almost always beneficial, as nothing can replace the selling power of having large contracts with major companies and retailers. However, affording the infrastructure necessary to facilitate compliance can still be a problem in the short run.
Retail Vendor Compliancy and Logistics Software
When you look at a major buyer’s retail vendor compliancy scorecard, a rating system that ranks vendors according to their compliance to a number of requirements, it’s often difficult to ascertain how to begin meeting the requirements. However, upon closer inspection, many companies find that a majority of compliance issues, and certainly the most critical ones, are associated with the shipping process, such as product labeling, product packaging, and method of shipment, to name a few. Yet, here there emerges another roadblock for many vendors: how to gain more control over the shipping process through logistics. Most companies receive their shipping logistics from one of three sources: an in-house logistic department, a third party logistics (3PL) provider, or by implementing logistic software, which allows you to become your own logistics provider without possessing logistical expertise.
In-House Logistics
Meeting shipping needs in-house is the traditional preference of companies that can afford to hire their own logistic experts, who typically earn around $80,000 per year. This fact alone prevents many companies from going in-house with their shipping process, as well as the fact that most companies pursue in-house logistic arrangements upon purchasing their own fleet, once and for all ending their dependence on 3PL.

What you receive from 3PL depends entirely on what type of 3PL provider you contract with: standard 3PL providers, who offer basic shipping services and seldom practice shipping logistics as a core practice; service developers, who offer more specialized services but not a comprehensive approach to the shipping process; customer adapters, who manage an existing shipping process but don’t propose new solutions; and customer developers, who manage the shipping process and do propose new solutions. For vendor requirements, customer developers make the most sense. But you can receive the same level of focus through logistic software at a fraction of the cost.
Logistics Software
Also referred to as freight transportation software, logistic software is priced as a software as a service (SAAS) offering, making it less expensive than other logistic options. What this means for vendors is less money spent on meeting vendor requirements, and an annual reduction in shipping expense that can be delegated toward other compliance needs. After using freight transportation software for one year, most companies experience a 10 percent reduction in shipping expense that increases in years following.

The Global Stupidity of Big Business

For decades now Big Business has held its grip and has crept in to almost every area of our daily lives. Yes it is also safe to say that there has been some positive effects of Big Business and in some areas it would be impossible to operate without the backing and support that Big Business offers.
However along with this also comes the Big Boy Ego Mentality that says:
o “don’t you know who we are” o “we know what’s best” o “this is the way we are going to be doing things now”
Forget about the economy and how gloomy everyone is saying things are, lets look at some of the wastage and stupidity that has contributed to the state of affairs we see all around us. I could site many examples but lets just talk about one such example.
An Example of the Stupidity of Big Business and how they wont stop to listen:
On of my in-laws (let’s call him Fred) was working for a family business and had done for almost 16 years. This family business had grown over time and he also grew in his knowledge and skills and had moved up within the business to become a floor supervisor.
The owners recently sold the family business for a cool 10 million to a Large Corporation who also brought 2 other businesses in the same industry at the same time.
In his position Fred was previously answerable directly to the business owner, and if he did not turn over around $200,000 worth of business through his floor in a week he was answerable to the boss who asked why.
The large corporation moved their people in and almost from the beginning wanted to change how things were done. With the attitude “we know best, we know what we are doing, you will now be doing it our way”. Within 6 months the other 2 businesses they had purchased at around the same time had already closed down, and the only business still remaining in operation was this one, and it too is currently not looking good.
After 6 months of changes and constantly being told “our way is the only way” his floor was down to $60,000 a week, a loss of turnover of $140,000, and as a result they were loosing contracts with outside organizations as they were unable to match production levels.
Fred decided to leave this company after he was told that he was replaceable and anyone could do his job. He was snatched up in an instant by another family business who is now winning the contracts that the other company was loosing.
Within the first 3 weeks his new employer has made an additional 50k over their normal income due to the changes that Fred implemented. Its funny how the Small Family Business listened to what he had to say and within 3 weeks they had added 50k to the business, while the Big Business with its Big Ego would not stop to listen, and now look like closing the doors of another business they just paid millions for..
The Doors will Close as they blame the economy, but I put it down to “Global Stupidity”
This has been another example of the stupidity of Big Business and the pure wastage which has contributed on a global scale to some of our current economic circumstances. Whilst many corporate bodies will not agree with this the evidence can be found in almost every industry across the globe.
Unlike some of today’s big businesses who end up having ego driven management who are not really concerned with the interests of the business except for their weekly salaries, the employers, employees and almost everyone involved in many small businesses have a personal stake in seeing the small business succeed.
This is a great time for those Small Businesses who are able to capitalize on these errors, and who can provide a personal level of service to both the employee and the customer. Stop, Think, Listen then Act, and you will make a killing from the Death of a Big Business.

The realistic duration is half the rated length of time. This is why it is basic that firefighters be trained to respond as quickly as possible to avoid being trapped inside smoke filled chambers with insufficient air in their tanks. Now, time is an essential factor during rescue missions. For instance, if it takes five minutes for a firefighter who is carrying a 30-minute supply of air to reach the blazing zone of an establishment, then the safest time for him to be in the area is five minutes, as he would spend the other five minutes to escape. That totals fifteen (15) minutes which is just half of the ideal 30-minute rating.
The weight of the apparatus is another, though a minor, impediment. Generally, it weighs 25 pounds. In addition, due to its size, the apparatus makes getting through narrow spaces difficult. Also the weight and size of such equipment lessen the firefighter’s flexibility.
Any firefighter knows that the mask blocks a lot of peripheral vision. An inferior model may make communication extremely difficult. This is why advanced equipment adds voice amplifying mechanism or other electronic components. Also there are reports that the equipment makes inhaling and exhaling more perceptible, limiting auditory sensation. Moreover, the fireproof suits restrict movement like walking, climbing, running, and lifting weight. A firefighter should be able to adapt to this temporary difficulty to be able to perform efficiently.
Some limitations are also due to the health and physical conditions of the fire fighter. Unfit firefighters who lack training may consume more air than usual. Thus, they have to come out of the building before they should. Weight of the fire fighting equipment and the suit is a big impediment during these missions. Firefighters would have to exert extra effort and, by doing so, require more air. Such additional consumption of air lowers the life of the breath-support equipment. In addition, the exertion also causes higher metabolism which means increased body heat build-up. This heat becomes trapped inside the suit for the moment and causes discomfort.
For the above-mentioned reasons, firefighters should be highly tolerant individuals. Physical fitness is of major importance, as an overweight responder may not be able to perform well. An unfit, unwell firefighter may refrain from doing rescue missions lest he may become a casualty. Psychological fitness is also a basic thing. While there may be no pyrophobics in a fire brigade, these individuals should be able to handle the emotional stress of seeing property destruction, hearing loud cries of victims, and seeing burnt human bodies. Note that while a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) is basic in these missions; ample training of the firefighters and rescuers is another essential consideration.
